The City of Fremont
The Economic and Neighborhood Development Department hired Steve Germann to assess the possibilities of opening a history museum in downtown Fremont. This project, as its “parent” agency indicates, was to a great extent about growing traffic and activity in the center of town. We recommended that rather than start a museum the city partner with the existing county historical society. The society was located well outside the city, and had large collections, mainly in storage. We recommended that the city renovate an existing historic building and create a downtown exhibition and program center that would serve the purposes of the city, the historical society, and the local audience.
